Important - Please read the following before you submit:

To get the best possible results from Signpost, please ensure that your web page is optimized for search engine spiders before submitting it. In particular check that:

  • it has an adequate title (Note: some spiders won't accept non-alphabetic first letters or pages which do not include a title tag)
  • there is a good set of 'keywords' and 'description' meta-tags
  • the first paragraph is descriptive and contains your 'strategic keywords'
  • for frames-based sites, the above applies to your main frameset document
You can find more information on this in our design pages.

Also note that the chances of your submission being indexed by some resources will be severely reduced if:

  • the URL contains strange characters i.e. '?', '&', '='
  • the URL redirects to another address
  • the site is hosted on one of the larger web domains (e.g. Geocities, Aol, Tripod etc.)
These restrictions are based on the policies of individual resources over which Signpost has no control.

The submission process requires the filling in of 3 forms. To make this process a little more convenient, Signpost sets a cookie in your web browser so that if you decide to halt the submission after filling forms 1 or 2, you will be able to return and continue where you left off. At any stage up to the final form you may cancel your submission.

Please note, Signpost does NOT accept submissions for sites containing adult-orientated material, or sites encouraging illegal activity or racism. Please read our terms and conditions for more details.

Form 1: You will be asked to enter the URL of your web site, and your e-mail address. When you press the submit button, Signpost will spider your URL (retrieve information from your web page) to ensure its validity. This can take several seconds so please be patient. If the URL is found to be valid, Signpost will generate a unique alphanumeric key and send it to your e-mail address. You will need this key to continue with your submission. This is how we verify that the e-mail address is valid and belongs to you.

Please ensure that the e-mail address you enter will be valid for the duration of your subscription.

Form 2: The second form contains several fields which Signpost needs to accurately submit your site. You will also need to enter the unique key sent to you by Signpost. You may notice that the title, keywords, short description, and long description fields have already been filled in. Signpost gets this information from the title tags and meta-tags (if they exist) in your web page. You can of course edit these fields as required.

You'll need to choose a category for your web site. The category consists of 3 levels, top, middle, and bottom, in increasing order of specialization. It is recommended that you choose the most appropriate category for your web site. In particular, if your site is in any way commercial it should be entered under a category within the 'Business & Economy' top level category. This is to ensure the greatest chance of being listed in Yahoo.

Form 3: When you proceed to Form 3 (credit card details) you will be automatically transferred to our secure server and asked to enter your credit card details, and choose your subscription period. Please view our range of charges. Our secure server ensures that your personal details are encrypted before being sent to us.

The process of credit card authorization may take up to 2 minutes, after which you will be able to login to your account.

OK, now move on to Form 1.
